In October 2010 changes to the practical test will include an Assessment of competence whilst driving independently, which assesses a candidate's ability to manage route and traffic conditions, will be introduced into all our practical tests for learner drivers.

A Little bit of trivia,
The first test was conducted on the 16th March 1935 and cost 7/6 the test was voluntary and was valid for a year.
In October 1956 the test fee is doubled to £1.
1976 the long life licence is introduced and is now valid till your 70th birthday.
The touch-screen theory test was introduced in Jan 2000 and the Hazard perception element was introduced on 14th Nov 2002.
